Metabolize
by
Gianni Caravaggio
November 2001

To transform common signs into the substance of a particular vision.

The individual artistic process is a metabolism in which things are transformed into a certain mentality, into an certain identity and into individual imagination.

My artistic process is the performative process of that peculiar relation.

Performing things they are reimagined - imagining image!

There is no difference between execution/construction and content,
"man without content" (Giorgio Agamben)

art work that identifies itself with the artistic process,
evokes image in an energetic form;
intuitive image
oscillating image
it oscillates in the imagination

lightness is a conquest (simplicity too!)

to link many plastic drinking straws in order to form a vorticous movement becomes the act of blowing in itself
- a psychic blow

my art work performs my artistic process.

that artistic-process plays (plays seriously):
It plays with meanings,
It plays with habits,
It plays with forms,
It plays with circumstances,
It plays with substances.

Tearing sheets of paper or punched them many times at their borders causes a change of substance.

To redefine, to transform, to draw, to change substance,
to recreate from a point.
The particular makes me perceive an incommensurable space in which I recreate myself.

everything flows

to cut many circular holes in fast food paper cups creating a tool to make a drawing,
to imagine inside a pile of magazines a wide chromatic world.

to concentrate time to make it physical,
to free!

to walk from A to B
to walk from A to ( is to be invented)

to choose between arriving and drawing,
between consuming and contemplating.

A sign can become a drawing!

…but consuming myself I will recreate myself (says space),
metaphor for the artist that never uses up (in contrary to an aspirin)

.. for example the experience of a landscape passed through and contemplated as a disinterested action with a common object transforms that landscape into a phenomenon of contemplation.

..and nevertheless: a visible world contains many invisible worlds. Disorder is many potential orders
- appearance is a form to be deepened.

lunatic!
